01Biography
From the cell
outward
Dr. Sundeep Sarai is a family physician whose route into medicine ran through the laboratory. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology and Genetics from the University of British Columbia in 2005, spending her undergraduate years studying how cells signal, divide, and repair themselves — the machinery that, decades later, still determines how skin ages and how it heals.
She trained in medicine at the University of Leicester, completing her MBChB in 2011, and went on to certify with the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Fifteen years of clinical practice followed, grounded in the habits family medicine teaches: take a careful history, examine before concluding, explain the options honestly, and know the whole patient rather than the single complaint.
Family medicine is a generalist's discipline, and its breadth turned out to be the most useful preparation for the work she does now. A family physician sees skin in every state — inflamed, sun-damaged, scarred, healing well, healing badly — attached to people of every age and circumstance. That range builds two clinical instincts that no procedural course can supply: pattern recognition across thousands of patient encounters, and a durable sense of when intervention helps and when it merely does something.
Aesthetic medicine became the place where those two threads meet. Treatments that renew skin — light-based therapies, microneedling, neuromodulators, dermal fillers — work by provoking the same cellular processes she first studied at UBC: controlled injury, collagen synthesis, remodelling. Understanding the mechanism is not academic decoration; it shapes when she recommends a treatment, how she doses it, and when she advises waiting instead.
Today her practice centres on Serene Rejuvenation, the clinic she founded in Surrey, British Columbia, where she serves as medical director. The clinic operates inside CityMed Medical Centre, and that setting is not incidental: it reflects a conviction that aesthetic treatment belongs in a medical environment, planned by a physician, with the screening, documentation, and follow-up that any other medical care would involve.
Her clinical focus is skin health and facial aesthetics — light and laser-based treatment, microneedling, and injectables — delivered with the judgement of a physician who has spent her career weighing benefit against risk in front of real patients, and who regards a well-reasoned "not yet" as one of the more useful things a doctor can say.

Clinical Approach
Assessment before treatment
Every patient relationship starts the same way: a conversation and an examination, before any discussion of procedures. Skin is an organ, and what it needs depends on its condition, its history, and the person it belongs to — not on what a menu of treatments happens to offer.
Dr. Sarai's plans tend toward restraint. She prefers the smallest intervention that can achieve the goal, staged over time, with results that read as a healthier version of the same face. Where the evidence for a treatment is thin, she says so; where the honest answer is that no treatment is warranted, that is the recommendation.
Consent, in her practice, means genuinely understanding what a procedure does, what it cannot do, what it costs in recovery time, and what the alternatives are — including doing nothing. Patients make better decisions with complete information, and better decisions make better outcomes.
The medical framing runs through the whole encounter: screening before treatment, documentation during it, and follow-up afterward. Aesthetic procedures are still procedures, and treating them with the same seriousness as any other clinical intervention is, in her view, simply what patients are owed.
